During the years I lived in Indonesia, I discovered that all the southern coasts (of any island) are the ones with strong waves, and it's due to the vast Indian Ocean. On the island of Java, they believe that Nyi Roro Kidul, a goddess dressed in green, inhabits the water, and they associate the danger of the sea with her ability to take you and bring you to her underwater palace - or, from a worldly perspective, if one drowns. At Chimaya beach, amidst Islamic chants, I experienced the power of the Indian Ocean, represented by the foam, which is the turbulence of the water at its maximum expression, and it's exactly the place where a surfer shouldn't be. In this white marble, I see the power of Nyi Roro Kidul.
