ALEVILLAVILA is deeply passionate about the vibrant culture and traditions of Mexico. Her print series, Juguetes Mexicanos, pays tribute to traditional Mexican toys, presenting them as if in a studio photo shoot, dramatically set against a black background. Through this work, she hopes new generations can appreciate their charm—even if they’ve never played with them and that those who did can see them through a fresh, contemporary lens. Bebeleche is a game she used to play in the street or on the school patio. With a piece of chalk, she and her friends would draw an airplane-shaped figure made of squares and hop through them, skipping the one where they had thrown a stone or a wad of wet paper back and forth until the course was complete. In this piece, ALEVILLAVILA captures the textures of the child’s clothing and the dynamic movement of the pose. As an added detail, she included a broken piece of chalk in the foreground to evoke the fleeting, tactile essence of play. This print is produced on 300 gsm Fabriano paper and is elegantly framed in a black recycled frame.
