Gitane is the romantic one. A ruffle runs the full edge of the napkin, gathered by hand so it falls in soft irregular waves rather than a stiff pleat. In white linen the effect is quiet but unmistakable — the napkin becomes the detail people notice, even on an otherwise plain table. Each is made by artisans in a tailoring atelier in Bologna, Italy, from pure linen that softens with every wash. Despite the look, it isn't precious: the ruffle goes through the washing machine like the rest of it, and skipping the iron only makes it prettier.
